About Club

Rotary Club of Poona Downtown  was established early in 1986.Two dynamic Rotary members from  Poona Central,Dr. Philly Karani and Dr. Subhash Patki were selected to start  RCPD. Rtn Sam Irani was designated as Governor's Special Representative. Under his guidance both these gentlemen gathered around 20 like minded people, who all met at Amir  Hotel on 15th May 1986 and decided to start anew club.Thus our Rotary club of Poona Downtown was chartered on the 12th of June 1986 at a glittering function in Blue Diamond Hotel . President Philly Karani recived the Charter of RI from then then District Governor  Rtn Joel Delvis. Our clubs Charitable Trust was also  established in October 1986. During the first year itself we won 6 out of the 11 District 3131 Awards   for meritorious  service and RI Presidents Citation , and this started the tradition of winning the Presidential citation almost every year, and we have never  looked back since.
