Minutes of Meeting 10th July 2023, Pocha Hall, Royal Connaught Boat Club, witnessed a grand Installation of President Aruna Rathi and her team for the Rotary Year 2023-24. The hall was resplendent with formally attired Rotarians and their spouses. The dignitaries included DG Manjoo Phadke and spouse Rtn Vishwas, AG Mahesh Makhija, District Director Foundation and Dist Dir Global Grants, and Dist Resource Trainer, Rtn Ajay Wagh, President Pune Central Ajay Chitnis and R’Ann Dipti, IPP Uday and the Rathi family. The meeting was called to order by President Zimra and the National Anthem was sung by all followed by the Rotary Hymn by Rtn PP Ashwini and the Downtown Choir. President Zimra welcomed the dignitaries in attendance and then presented her report highlighting the activities done during her tenure. She began by paying homage to her husband, Raymond, and her brother, Judah, who had passed away recently. An audio-visual presentation of all the Club activities was displayed on the screen. President Zimra said that as a Club, Downtown, achieved many milestones and received many awards. She acknowledged the contributions of AKS Chair Circle members PP Anil Goel and his wife Neeru, AKS Society member PP Ashwini Malhotra and his family and her late husband, Raymond, who became Major Donors Level 1 in this Rotary year. Service projects worth Rs 3.5 crores were carried out in the year 2022-23; the major ones being the LN-4 project, Low Vision Centre, vaccinations in slum children for Hepatitis B and Cervical Cancer. In an effort to include the youth of today, two Interact Clubs were started, one for special children and the other community based. A new Rotaract Club of Symbiosis Skills University was established. In a collaboration between RCPD, Janaseva Foundation and Weikfield Foods Pvt Ltd, a Rehabilitation Center for 400 street girls is being set up. A Dialysis Centre in Bopodi was set up to serve the poor. Another milestone was a twinning agreement with the Haifa Rotary Club in Israel. President Zimra conveyed her gratitude and appreciation to her Board and all the Rotarians and spouses who together worked to make her year so fruitful and successful. Awards were presented by DG Manjoo Phadke and President Zimra to Rotarians and Committees for their outstanding contributions. President Zimra thereafter introduced incoming President Aruna Rathi and handed over the President’s Collar, Gavel and Bell. DG Manjoo presented the President’s pin to her thereby installing Aruna as the 38th President of RCPD. President Aruna then introduced and installed her new Board of Directors in the presence of DG Manjoo. In her vision statement as she addressed the Club, President Aruna said that she and her team would do their best to uphold the status of the Club. She promised to continue the programs started in the past years as well as support the new initiatives started by the District this year. She invited all Club members to join her in her effort to “Create Hope in the World”. The Installation Issue of the Club Bulletin was released by DG Manjoo Phadke. DG Manjoo Phadke addressed the august gathering and complimented our Club for being one of the best in the district. She urged the club to focus on supporting Anganwaadis, create Centers for Nutrition and Counselling and create awareness about water conservation by distributing aerators for taps in housing societies and hostels. She has initiated a new concept of Dist. Resource Trainers, having Rotary games and quizzes to give Rotary Information. DG Manjoo urged Clubs to work together to take Dist. 3131 to newer heights and to focus on Leadership Development so that each Rotarian can be a brand ambassador of the organization. She ended her talk with a beautiful story for all leaders to follow - to stop, think and then respond! The entire audience was spellbound and her talk ended with thunderous applause.
