One among the recent inclusions in the duties of Rotary Districts is to promote Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. For us Indians living in India, this is a way of life as we are the most diversified (Terrain, Ethnicities, Religions, Languages, Income-groups, Food, Fashion, Entertainment etc etc) Equity (Largest & multi-polar democracy) & inclusion (As strong believers thru' ages in Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam i. e .One Planet One Family). Our District Officers, Rtn Brij Sethi (Chair DEI) & Rtn Tina Rattra (Director DEI) had organised a seminar on January 5th, catering to the LGB (Lesbians, Gays & Bisexuals) community. The lead-club was RCP Camp, with 8 other clubs, including RCPD The take-aways are: 1. Parents must have a close relationship as FRIENDS of their adolescent children so that they confide everything in their parent(s). "Shodasha varsham putram mitram" Befriend your children when they are around 16. Do not pressurise them with your authority as a parent. 2. Acceptance and tolerance towards people with congenital abnormalities is a must. We Rotarians must spread the message to the Society at large, at every opportunity.
