During planning meeting, BOD understood that in order to do all the projects we were planning, we will need fund and therefore it was decided to organize a fund raising program at the earliest. .The Rotary Club of Poona Downtown came together once again to collect funds in their endeavour to help humanity. Downtowners opened their hearts and pockets once more for a Fundraiser on the 21st of July 2018 at the Mahatma Phule Auditorium. This was indeed an evening of music for a cause. The Doctor‟s Orchestra for Charity and Social Service or DOCS rendered a breathtaking performance of old and new numbers. They array was included not just old Bollywood hits, but ghazals, semi classical, folk and regional music. Saathi Haath Badhana—the theme for the evening was a true reflection of the ethos of both the Rotary club and the artists on stage. It was a little hard to believe that the busy, committed medical fraternity has a life other than white coats and sterile environments. Yet, these docs have gone beyond their clinics and operating theatres into another theatre where they use the healing power of music, not just to rejuvenate themselves but to bring joy to thousands. Downtowners were lucky have these talented musicians perform for them through a scintillating evening. The R I theme „Be the Inspiration‟ was woven through the evening with glimpses into the lives of many inspirational personalities. The incredible journey of the DOCS began nearly twenty years ago when a group of young medical students of B.J. Medical College discovered a common passion ------ their intense love and interest in music. They formed a Musical group with the prime objective of reliving the wonderful college days and also to vent out their brimming talents and use whatever funds they could generate from the musical programs, for charitable purposes. This group of Doctors staged their first concert in 2001 on the theme of “Nostalgia”. Never compromising on quality, professionally or on stage, these Doctors have always believed that their performance has to be as good as, if not better, than professional musicians. The fact that they have performed with great names of the industry like Sonu Nigam, Hariharan, Yesudasji and Bhupinder Singh is proof enough…… Their talents have been recognized by the likes of Amol Palekar, Sandhya Gokhale, Naseeruddin Shah and Jackie Shroff. The funds collected from this amazing evening will be used by RCPD in various projects to help humanity. Music itself is healing ---- what a lovely way to heal and help!
