This project is done using GG 1983721 Background: Cataract is the leading cause of blindness in underdeveloped countries. They are people who stop being productive becoming a burden for their relatives. There is no retirement and the correct medical assistance is only available to the rich. The government charity assistance is terrible. The KK Eye Institute(founded by Kundlani and Kirpalani) set up by the Sadhu Vaswani Mission,was founded in 2003 and is dedicated to eradicating treatable blindness in the villages of the Maharashtra region. The ‘Sight For The Sightless’ Programme with a major thrust towards Community Ophthalmology works with a mission to combat eye disease and reduce avoidable blindness through a comprehensive approach to eye care. The K K is financed by public donations and self-financing by attending private patients in the afternoon. The staff is hired full time by the Hospital, that is, the surgical doctors work from 8 to 5, treating the charity patients as well as the private ones in the afternoon. Our Project: We have planned to provide surgical equipment for the community surgeries carried out by KK Eye Institute. A new wing has been constructed for the purpose and is being supplemented by the equipment purchased under this Global Grant. Budget for the grant is The funding has been done with our main partner clubs in Spain along with some other clubs of Europe. The total funding is USD 65,776 with the break-up as below Host Club Poona Downtown 5,000 International Club Ceuta Spain 2,843 International Clubs grouped with Palma Almudaina 19,896 DDF District 2203 12,084 World Fund from RI 25,953 Current Status: The funding from RI was received in April 2019. Final discussions with all suppliers were done and orders released. The deliveries of the equipment have started and remaining will arrive very soon, however the last delivery is expected by end of June’19. Commissioning and training would be carried out immediately and equipment put to use. The new site where all these equipment will be installed and used are ready.
