After successfully completing the 1st batch of the Adult Literacy Program, we started the 2nd batch in a Basti at Koregaon Park on 2nd December. The batch will go on for 5 days a week for 3 months. We began with 15 ladies during the first three days of the first week. The ladies are provided with the writing material. They are also provided snacks periodically. The teacher has been arranged from the same slum by Ann Meena Latey and is paid a monthly stipend. The ladies are so enthusiastic and are keen to learn that they purchased the alphabet books on their own. But in the subsequent weeks the attendance dropped to 12 women who are likely to continue till completion of the program. Ann Meena Latey, First Lady Manju Mookerjee, Rtn Supriya Banerjea and Rtn Pinky Mehmi attended the classes as volunteer supervisors. We thank Meena Latey and Manju Mookerjee who initiated the program and are continuing the supervision work.
