The Tadiwala Road wasti is rather well known for all the wrong reasons. We took it up as a challenge to enter the area and promote literacy among the women living there. This is our second Adult Literacy class, the other one is in Ghadke Maharaj Vasti near Koregaon Park. Somehow with a lot of effort we gained a foothold and I have now succeeded in starting a Literacy Class there. Even finding a teacher was difficult but we managed to secure one on the same salary that was paid at Gadge Wasti. Her name is Vanita Dhasal; she is XI standard pass. Initially 20 lady-students registered but on the first day 17 August 2015, only 10 came for the class. The inauguration of the class was graced by Rtn President Supriya Banerjea, IWCPD President Sunanda Luthra and R'ann Manju Mookerji with me. Compared to the two groups in Koregaon Park, here the women are somewhat advanced (they could recognise many alphabets), but none of them could write. Some more students have also joined now. The classes are held Monday through Friday in the Buddha Hall from 3.30 to 4.30 p.m. The Inner Wheel Club of Poona Downtown have also joined us in this activity.
