Rotary International's prestigious project of eradicating Polio from the world is going on very strong though most of the countries of the world have been declared Polio- free. India was declared polio free in the year 2012. Recently Nigeria has been declared Polio-free. On Sunday, 21 February, 2016 was the day of National Immunisation for POLIO, the second time it was observed this year. Rotary Club of Poona Downtown participated actively in this project to help the Municipal Doctors, Nurses and volunteers to give Polio Drops to thousands of children. Our area was under the Ward Office of Dhole Patil Road which was assigned to us by the District 3131. RC Downtown's Directior, Foundation, Rtn Mahendar Chandiramani along with the Chair man of Polio Committee, Rtn. Subir Guha reached the venue at 7.30 am in the morning and coordinated the project with the concerned doctor of that ward. We provided them a transport to visit the whole area throughout the day to provide polio drops to the children. The car carried ice-boxes with medicine and a few doctors and volunteers were travelling in that car. From RI District 3131, we got two boxes of caps, banners and toys to be distributed. Our members headed over the same to the doctor-charge at the Ward Office. In the evening we got the report that total 9,738 children were immunised by giving the Polio drops on that particular day RC Downtown is proud to be a partner of this big project of RI.
